Roller derby enthusiasts from across the islands and around the world will congregate on the Big Island for the Aloha Skate Roller Draft Tournament.
The event will take place at the Waimea District Park, at 67-1315 Ala’ Ōhi’a Rd., in Waimea, this Saturday and Sunday. Competitors from the mainland, Germany, Japan, and Canada will be lacing up their skates for a weekend of thrilling competition, community spirit, and island vibes.
Admission is free and open to the public.

Skaters of all levels — from seasoned pros to rising stars — will converge in Waimea for this exciting draft-style tournament. Each captain will draft their team on the spot after forming it, either through challenges or games.
“We’re thrilled to host this fun tournament format for the roller derby world and even more excited to bring a high level of derby for the community to enjoy,” said Co-Chair Matt Panzarino.
Known on the roller derby track as Grand Master Smash, Panzarino added: “It’s more than just a competition—it’s an excellent experience for all attending skaters and spectators alike. We are expecting over 200 participants for the two-day event — we can’t wait.”
Doors open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with the first bout at 11 a.m. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, with the playoffs commencing at 11 a.m.
