Sexual assault suspect living in Indonesia extradited to Hawaiʻi Island for trial

A 39-year-old former Hawai‘i Island resident who had been living in Indonesia was extradited to the Big Island to face charges related to alleged sexual assault of a minor, according to the Hawaiʻi County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.

Luke Ollis was taken into custody on July 17 by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents after arriving at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on a flight from Taiwan International Airport.

He was later extradited to Hawai‘i Island under the custody of investigators with the Prosecuting Attorney.

Ollis was originally indicted by a Hilo grand jury on April 24, 2024, on multiple felony charges related to the alleged sexual assault of a minor between November 2012 and February 2013.

The 39-year-old now faces one count of first-degree sexual assault, a Class A felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and two counts of third-degree sexual assault, a Class C felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment or five years’ probation and up to 12 months in jail.

At his initial court appearance on Sept. 2, a Hilo Circuit Court judge increased Ollis’s bail from $150,000 to $500,000.

Ollis’ hearing has now been scheduled for Sept. 10 to consider the Hawai‘i County prosecutors’ motion to deny bail.

A jury trial is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2026.

The case was initiated by Officer Dustin Sampaga, Hamakua/North Hilo Patrol, formerly of Puna Patrol. The felony investigation was led by Major Scott Amaral, Area I Operations Bureau, formerly of the Area I Juvenile Aid Section, Hawai‘i Police Department.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Woodrow Pengelly.
