Couple arrested after suspected meth, cocaine found in East Hawai‘i home

A couple from Puna are facing numerous drug charges after various drugs were found during a search warrant at a residence in Hawaiian Paradise Park.

Hawai‘i Island police executed the warrant on Aug. 1, recovering a combined total of 106.9 grams or 3.7 ounces of a substance that tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine, 27.86 grams of a substance that tested presumptive positive for cocaine, various types of liquid anabolic steroids, two digital scales, unused zip lock-type packets, $13,120 in U.S. currency, and gold jewelry valued at more than $175,000, according to a press release from Hawai‘i County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.

The discovery led to the arrests of Bruce Lee, 62, and Starlene Lee, 59.

Bruce Lee made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court on Monday afternoon. His bail was maintained at $325,000 and he was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 6.

Starlene Lee posted $325,000 bail and is scheduled to appear on Aug. 28 Hilo District Court. Official charging documents have not yet been posted with the court.

Bruce Lee is charged with first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, two counts of first-degree attempted promotion of a dangerous drug, second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, third-degree promotion of a harmful drug and second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug.

Both first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and first-degree attempted promotion of a dangerous drug are class A felonies and carry a penalty of either a 20-year prison term or 10 years probation and up to two years in jail.
