Minor coastal flooding is expected through Thursday on the Big Island during times of high tide.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, peak monthly tides, combined with water levels that are running higher than predicted, will lead to minor flooding along the shoreline and in low-lying coastal areas of Maui County and the Big Island.

Beachgoers should expect flooding of beaches that are normally dry, minor coastal erosion, and saltwater inundation.

The National Weather Service advises not to drive through flooded roadways.

“If you are forced to drive through salt water, be sure to rinse your vehicle with fresh water,” the weather advisory states. Move electronics, vehicles or other valuables to higher ground. Monitor vessels to ensure mooring lines don’t get too tight and watch out for overwash around boat ramps.”

Canoes or other watercraft should be secured and stowed on beaches.
