A vehicle fire in a vacant lot in Honoka‘a resulted in a scorched six acres of brush.

Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to the blaze at 11:44 a.m. off Lehua Street. When they arrived on scene, crews found multiple vehicles engulfed in flames and heavy brush already burning.

According to a press release from the fire department, the fire was fueled by strong east-northeast winds that ignited large stands of bamboo. Winds pushed flames uphill.

Two engines, along with Choppers 1 and 2, were dispatched. A dozer was also called to the scene for added support to control the fire from spreading to structures. Crews were able to get the fire under control by 4 p.m.
