Kealakehe transfer station closed early at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 15 because of a staffing shortage with the facility’s contractor.

This is the second time in the past week the facility has closed early because of staffing issues with its contractor. It closed early Jan. 10 as well.

The facility is scheduled to reopen Jan. 16 for regular hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Hawai‘i County Department of Environmental Management apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks the public for its patience and understanding.
