Update: Emergency water shutoff extended until 5 p.m. for portions of Waimea
Update at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 27: The Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply is notifying customers along portions of Māmalahoa Highway, heading east of Pu‘u Pūlehu Loop; U‘ikeoni Street; Waokele Street; and in Lakeland Subdivision in Waimea that the emergency water shutoff originally scheduled until 2 p.m. todayto repair a water main was extended to 5 p.m.
This emergency repair was necessary to prevent any further disruptions and/or problems.
Upon resumption of service, waterlines will be flushed and cleaned, during which time affected customers might notice turbid and/or discolored water.
They might also notice trapped air in plumbing, which will be released as water is initially used.

“We apologize for this unplanned and unexpected situation,” said the county Department of Water Supply in its notification about the shutoff extension. “Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
Original post at 6:14 p.m. Nov. 26: The Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply announced that service will be temporarily shut off Wednesday in several areas of Waimea so crews can repair a water main.
The affected areas are:
- Portions of Māmalahoa Highway, heading east of Pu‘u Pūlehu Loop.
- U‘ikeoni Street.
- Waokele Street.
- Lakeland Subdivision.
The shutoff is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Customers in the affected areas should set aside drinking water ahead of time to meet their household water needs while service is interrupted.
A water tanker for public use will be available at the intersection of U‘ikeoni Street and Old Māmalahoa Highway.
