The Salvation Army is ringing the bell to call for volunteers this holiday season
As the holiday season nears, volunteer bell ringers are urgently needed to staff The Salvation Army Red Kettles across Hawaiʻi in November and December.
The Salvation Army Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division is asking for the community to lend a hand by spreading holiday cheer, ringing the iconic bell and encouraging donations that go to those in need throughout the year.
“With so many in Hawaii facing financial challenges, the Journey of the Red Kettle reminds us that the impact of these efforts goes far beyond the holiday season,” said TSA Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Divisional Director of Development Charmaine K. Hauanio-Kuewa. “Every hour spent ringing a bell supports programs that touch lives all year long –whether it’s feeding families, offering shelter, or providing Christmas gifts to keiki and kupuna in need. It’s more than just collecting donations, it’s about sharing hope, joy and aloha with our community every day.”
Becoming a bell ringer is simple and no experience is required. Bell ringing shifts are flexible, as short as two hours, and training is provided. Any amount of time will be impactful for The Salvation Army locations across Hawaiʻi County.
Red Kettles will be stationed at six KTA locations—downtown Hilo, Puainako, Kona, Keauhou, Waimea and Waikoloa Village. Hilo and Kona will also have Red Kettles at Safeway and Walmart.
Red Kettles will also be stationed at Malama Market in Honokaʻa, K. Takata Store in Kapaau and Ace Hardware in Kamuela.
Volunteers will be ringing bells from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday beginning Friday, Nov. 15 through Tuesday, Dec. 24.
The schedule for bell ringing at all locations can be found at The Salvation Armyʻs Register to Ring website.
