Update: Power restored to more than 3,400 previously blacked out West Hawai’i customers

Update at 9:33 a.m. Oct. 27: Hawaiian Electric reports that power has been restored to all of the more than 3,400 customers in the Kealakehe and Hōlualoa areas, from the Palani Road/Highway 180 intersection north on Highway 190 to the Makalei area, that had previously lost service earlier this morning.

The electric utility also reported in a post on the social media platform X that the power outage was caused by palm fronds in a power line. It was not a Public Safety Power Shutoff.

Original post at 7:18 a.m. Oct. 27: Hawaiian Electric reports a power outage in the Kealakehe and Hōlualoa areas impacting 3,446 customers.

It is unknown what caused outage at this time. However, power officials estimate the restoration at 10:30 a.m.
