Haunting holiday happenings continue around the Big Island today and tonight with more Halloween festivities.
There’s trails that will scare your socks off and plenty of family fun to be had at pumpkin patches and fall fests. Even the residents of Panaʻewa Rainforest Zoo & Gardens in Hilo are getting into the spooky spirit.
Check out all the frightfully festive events below.
- The Haunted Trail: Chapter 24 — Hide N Seek
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26-31, Nani Mau Gardens, Hilo
Tropical beauty is possessed by the dead on this terrifying trail, where a sinister doll beckons you into a twisted game of hide and seek. Do you dare to play with evil? Venture misty pathways where the restless undead roam. The chilling cries of victims echo as grotesque beasts prepare a ghastly feast. Shadows lurk with evil spirits, eager to claim another soul. Keep moving and avoid getting trapped forever … because the doll is never far behind. Will you survive the night, or become another lost soul on the trail? Daylight hours are less intense so the entire family can enjoy the trail. Nighttime is the full-scare experience and recommended only for those 18 and older, unless accompanied by a parent. There will be bright flashing lights. No running allowed. No guests with known heart conditions. All guests must sign a personal liability waiver. Your adventure along this frightfully friendly frolic begins with a tour of the Halloween Village, then your tour ghoul lures you into the Haunted Forest. Bring your own flashlight and wear your favorite Halloween costume. Cost: $5 per person (at least one adult per family); free for children 5 years old and younger. Come enjoy an interactive trail, where children will follow the adventures of Gideon the Brave Gnome through a magical forest of wonders. Keiki will collect treasures along the way to take home. Children 10 years old and younger will take the adventure through 4 p.m., with middle-schoolers jouneying from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. There will also be trail prizes, food and a bake sale available. Thrill seekers age 13 and older can once again venture through a football-field-sized hedge maze filled with monsters, ghosts and other scary creatures during the Haunted Halloween Maze. Then, children will embark on a “spooktacular” quest, searching for hidden treasures throughout the park on the Keiki Scavenger Hunt, with winners receiving prizes and everyone enjoying free Halloween treats.
