North Kona water restriction downgraded to voluntary conservation notice

The Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply has downgraded a mandatory water restriction for North Kona to voluntary conservation.

Effective immediately, customers in the district are asked to adhere to a voluntary 10% water conservation notice instead of the 25% water restriction, which had been in effect since Aug. 7, 2023.

The communities affected include Mākālei, Kalaoa, Kona Palisades, Keāhole, Palamanui, Kohanaiki, Kailua-Kona, Kaloko, Kaloko Mauka, Hualālai, Honokōhau, Kealakehe, Keahuolū, Keōpū, Hōlualoa, Wai‘aha, Kahalu‘u and Keauhou.

The Hualālai Deepwell, which went offline March 30, has been repaired and returned to service April 26.

The Department of Water Supply continues to ask customers to conserve drinking water, use water wisely and not waste it.
