Update: More freezing rain, snow for Big Island summits with extension of winter weather advisory
Update at 4:01 p.m. March 7: The winter weather advisory in effect for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island has been extended until 6 a.m. Friday.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu says deep moisture moving over the island will lead to periods of freezing rain and snow at the summits and on the upper slopes of both mountains.
Additional ice accumulations of about one-quarter of an inch and 1 to 2 inches of additional snow are forecast.
The wintry conditions could create dangerous road conditions and low visibility. The public should be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
