Hilo Medical Center staff welcomes two Christmas Day babies
Hilo Medical Center staff welcomed two Christmas Day babies this year.
Kala‘au “First Morning Dew” Ili‘ahi Jacob Simeona DeLima, was born at 7:05 a.m. to parents Shanaya Simeona and Bransten Banaay-DeLima of Hilo.
He weighed 7 pounds 4 ounces and measured 19.5 inches.
The Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Kea‘au gifted the ‘ohana baby bags loaded with baby gear and a $100 gift card. The first-time parents expressed gratitude saying the gifts will help them in the long run.
“The care at the hospital has been awesome,” said the newborn’s father, adding the nurses were helpful and kind.”
As a first-time dad, Banaay-Delima said he’s looking forward to everything with his son, including taking him beach and being his fishing partner.”
The second baby born on Christmas at 5 p.m. was Emery Rose Transfiguracion Castro, weighing 6 pounds 7 ounces and measuring 19 inches.
Her parents, Trevor and Irene Castro of Mountain View, received the second Christmas basket from the Eagles.
“We feel so blessed and grateful – it’s so nice of them,” said the newborn’s mother Irene Castro.
Trevor Castro was happy about the care they received.
“Everything was great from the doctor to the nurses,” he said. “They made sure baby was OK. I wouldn’t want anyone else other than Liva, Alyssa and Karissa caring for us in L&D (labor and delivery).”
