Update: Red flag warning for portions of Hawai‘i Island canceled

Update at 4:07 p.m. on Monday: The National Weather Service in Honolulu has canceled the red flag warning.

The wind advisory was canceled as winds are quickly falling below the advisory threshold this
afternoon. However, gusts to around 45 mph will still be possible for portions of Hawai‘i Island.

Original post: A red flag warning remains in effect throughout the state and includes the Big Island from North and South Kohala, Kona, and Ka‘ū Districts through today.

A wind advisory is also in effect for Hāmākua, North and South Kohala, Ka‘ū and Puna Districts.

The combination of strong winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation can contribute to extreme fire conditions. Due to these conditions, the following emergency rules are in effect:

• All outdoor burning is banned in the Districts of North Kohala, South Kohala, North Kona, South Kona and Ka‘ū.
• All outdoor open flames are banned in the Districts of North Kohala, South Kohala, North Kona, South Kona and Ka‘ū.
