Footage: Monk seal and pup swim into lagoon at Big Island resort

This morning, Hilton Waikōloa Village on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island was greeted with a surprise as a monk seal and her pup swam into the resort’s ocean-fed lagoon.

The lagoon was promptly closed for the safety of both guests and the monk seals. Simon Amos, Hotel Manager, Hilton Waikoloa Village, captured the above footage of the animals playfully swimming in the lagoon.

The Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources is currently onsite at the resort to identify the seal and her pup.
