Hawai‘i Island police seek help finding suspect who stole a vehicle in Kona

Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a suspect involved in a stolen vehicle investigation.

The theft occurred on Monday at approximately 9:25 a.m. in Kailua-Kona. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 5-feet-7 to 5-feet-8 inches tall, weighing approximately 175-180 pounds, with brown facial hair.

The suspect was last observed wearing grey tennis shoes with white soles, dark-colored pants and a black t-shirt with white and red lettering. He was also seen carrying and later wearing a yellow or green construction-style jacket or shirt and had a grey hat with a dark-colored background and white/red lettering on the front of the hat.

The description of the vehicle was not provided.

The male was last observed fleeing from officers in the 74-5400 block of Māmalahoa Highway.

Police would like to remind the public that anyone who hinders the apprehension of a wanted person by providing money, transportation, weapons, disguise, or other means of avoiding discovery, apprehension, prosecution, or conviction may be subject to the offense of hindering prosecution. First-degree hindering prosecution is a class C felony, and second-degree Hindering prosecution is a misdemeanor.
