17th annual Hawaiʻi COPD Education Day virtual event Sept. 8

Come learn more about Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease during a free event that will be available online next month.

The Hawaiʻi COPD Coalition will host its 17th annual COPD Education Day, “Emerging with Aloha,” on Sept. 8.

With more than 45,000 Hawaiʻi adults diagnosed with the illness, which includes emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and chronic asthma, this year’s event aims to address myths of the disease, how to travel safely with respiratory issues, pulmonary rehabilitation and treatments for advanced valve techniques.

Those who suffer from this illness, as well as their caregivers, are particularly invited to the annual event. Participation can be in person on-site at the Queenʻs Conference Center in Honolulu as well as virtually over Zoom from 10 a.m. to noon.

Featured speakers include

• Kathleen Kozak, a physician at Straub Medical Center
• Czamira “Maya” Alba, advanced practice registered nurse of Straub Medical Center
• Pam McMillan registered respiratory therapist of Kaiser Permanente and
• Valerie Chang, patient advocate and founder of Hawaiʻi COPD Coalition
• Ericka Saito, a physical therapist at Rehab Hospital of the Pacific
• Eric Crawley, a pulmonologist at Pali Momi Medical Center
