Aloha Theatre offers audition workshop for ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ 

Aloha Theatre will host a two-hour workshop designed to prepare participants for upcoming auditions for “The Play That Goes Wrong” by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields.

Led by Artistic Director Sara Athans, the workshop will take place on July 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. Attendance at the workshop is not a requirement to audition for the show, but a chance for participants to give their audition a practice run and get questions answered.

Attendees will be able to read “sides” (short scenes from the show), get tips on “cold reading” in character, and learn what directors are looking for in an audition. Participants are asked to wear close-toed shoes and dress in clothing comfortable for movement.

Athans is a community arts administrator, facilitator and director originally from Anchorage, Alaska. Prior to joining the Aloha Theatre, Athans worked in a pre-K special education classroom in Kailua-Kona. She also was the director of programs at the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden & Museum in Austin, Tex., and executive director of Anchorage Community Theatre.

Most recently Athans directed “Disaster!” for the Aloha Theatre. She holds a bachelorʻs degree in theatre and dance from the University of Texas and a masterʻs in applied theater from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

Auditions for “The Play That Goes Wrong” are tentatively planned for Aug. 7 and 8. Aloha Theatre welcomes participants of all abilities regardless of ethnicity, body type, gender expression or background to audition.

Acting experience is not required. Newcomers are encouraged to attend.

The “Play That Goes Wrong Audition Workshop” is appropriate for actors ages 13 and older. Tuition is $25 ($22 early-bird). Register online at: alohatheatre.com
