Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu on the Big Island has announced its upcoming Youth Education offerings.

In these classes students will learn the building blocks of theater and pick up life skills such as public speaking, problem solving and working as part of a team.

  • Aloha Teen Theatre is a free weekly program for teens ages 13 to 18, residing on Hawai‘i Island, that explores the many elements and skills involved in the creative and performing arts. Aloha Teen Theatre also offers an opportunity for teens to collaborate and build valuable relationships with others who share similar interests. The program is teen led – students choose a focus each quarter, from acting to stagecraft to improv and more. Beginning Aug. 11, Aloha Teen Theatre meets on Fridays from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. School holidays are observed with no meetings over fall, winter and spring breaks.
  • Tuesday Troupers is for keiki ages 10 to 12. Through eight two-hour sessions, students will learn and rehearse a short play. During class time they’ll improve their public speaking, develop problem-solving skills and build friendships. This eight-week after school class culminates in a showcase performance and potluck on the final day. Online registration is now open for summer and fall sessions.
  • Theatre Thrivers is for keiki ages 8 and 9. Through eight 90-minute sessions, students will play theater games that develop self-confidence and expand their reading and communication skills. Your keiki will learn the core concepts of theater practice, and rehearse a short performance to be presented on the final day celebration. Online registration is now open for summer and fall sessions.
  • Little Theatre Club is for keiki ages 5 to 7. In these six creative play sessions students will learn about the Aloha Theatre, learn basic etiquette and performance techniques, and have fun with friends. Family and friends will be able to attend a final showcase performance and potluck. Online registration is now open for summer and fall sessions.

Scholarships are available. In addition to classes, weekend and school break workshops will also be offered for keiki and teens to focus on specific skills from auditioning to costuming to running the sound board.
