The 2023 Seeds of Knowledge Summer Reading Challenge, which is offered at all 51 public libraries statewide, runs through July 31. (Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library)

Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library will host The Seeds of Knowledge Community Fair as part of its end-of-summer reading challenge celebration on July 29.

The community is invited to learn about the amazing people and organizations of Waimea during this free family-friendly event.

The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library, located at 67-1209 Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea.

In keeping with the Hawaiʻi State Public Library System’s summer reading challenge theme, Seeds of Knowledge, friends and neighbors from the community will share information about their work and lead a wide range of fun educational activities. There will be solar viewing, seed paper, water safety and ocean awareness, agriculture, emergency preparedness, and watershed booths.

Activities include plant and seed giveaways, chess, coloring, pressed flower bookmarks, UV light bead bracelets and free solar viewing glasses for the upcoming eclipses. 

The 2023 Seeds of Knowledge Summer Reading Challenge, which is being offered at all 51 public libraries statewide, began June 1 and runs through July 31.
