6.5 magnitude quake hits Tonga region; no tsunami threat for Hawai‘i

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 occurred at approximately 9:11 a.m. HST in the Tonga region.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirms there is no tsunami threat to the Big Island or the State of Hawai‘i, according to the Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Agency.
