Flash flood warning for parts of West Hawaiʻi canceled

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has canceled the flash flood warning that was in effect for portions of West Hawaiʻi. The heavy rain has ended, and flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat.

At 4:10 p.m. April 29, radar indicated heavy rain over North Kona that was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. The Waiaha stream rain gauge also showed rapidly rising water levels, and flash flooding was ongoing or expected.

Some locations that experienced flash flooding included Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Hōlualoa, Honalo, Kahaluʻu-Keauhou, Kainaliu, Kealakekua, Kalaoa, Puʻu Anahulu, Hōnaunau and Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport.
