Husband and wife facing attempted murder charges plead not guilty in 3rd Circuit Court

A husband and wife appeared in 3rd Circuit Court in Kona on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to a slew of charges, including first-degree attempted murder for shooting at Hawai‘i police officers last week during an early-morning crime spree in Kona.

Dylan and Leilani Alcain appeared before 3rd Circuit Court Judge Wendy DeWeese. Public defender Lezlie Kiaha made a special appearance in both cases, however she made motion to withdraw, which was granted.

DeWeese maintained bail for Leilani Alcain at $705,000. A jury trial is set for Oct. 3 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Robert Kim.

Dylan Alcain’s bail was maintained at $725,000. A jury trial was scheduled for Aug. 29 before Judge DeWeese.

Dylan and Leilani Alcain are facing the same 11 offenses stemming from alleged crimes that occurred on April 20. Police say they broke into two Hele gas stations — one in Kona and the other in Captain Cook; committed an armed robbery in the Kona Paradise Subdivision in South Kona; and fired at police officers who were attempting to pull them over. The pair was charged as principal and/or accomplice in all offenses.

Dylan Alcain had one additional first-degree burglary charge stemming from a break-in at a Texaco on Waikōloa Road on April 14.
