The Hawai’i Premiere of the Tony Award-nominated musical “Be More Chill” will be performed at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Performing Arts Center at the end of April.
The Hilo Community Players’ production is based on the novel by Ned Vizzini and features music and lyrics by Joe Iconis and book by Joe Tracz.
The musical, which opened on Broadway in 2019, is directed by Dr. Rachel Klein and features music and vocal direction by Rachel Edwards and choreography by Nadia Schlosser. Rachel Edwards conducts a live orchestra to accompany an all-star cast.

“Be More Chill” tells the story of Jeremy Heere, an average teenager portrayed by Christopher Kocian. His life changes when he discovers “The Squip,” a tiny supercomputer that promises to bring him everything he desires most: a date with Christine (Sarah Elliott), an invite to the raddest party of the year and a chance to survive life in his suburban New Jersey high school. But is being the most popular guy in school worth the risk?
Ioane Boshard plays the role of “The Squip,” while Sarah Elliott stars as Christine.

Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for discount tickets, and $10 for University of Hawaiʻi Hilo and Hawaiʻi Community College students with valid ID and children aged 17 and under. All tickets will be sold for an extra $5 on the night of the performance.
