Update: Flood advisory canceled on Hawai‘i Island

The flood advisory for Hawai‘i Island is canceled.

A flood advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. throughout Hawai‘i Island.

According to the National Weather Service at 5:51 p.m., radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain over much of the Big Island. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour with the heaviest rain occurring over downslope portions of the Hāmākua Coast.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Hilo, Kailua-Kona, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Captain Cook, Waikoloa Village, Kapa‘au, Honoka‘a, Pōhakuloa Training Area, Pōhakuloa Camp, Volcano, Wood Valley, Glenwood, Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, Hōnaunau, Mountain View, Honalo, Kainaliu, Kealakekua and Pu‘uanahulu.

Impacts include minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas and in streams.
