The National Weather Service canceled all weather advisories after a cold front battered Hawai‘i Island earlier this week with rain, wind, high surf and snow.

Due to impacts from recent severe weather, a shelter was opened at the Honoka‘a Sports Complex, for those that have sustained damage to their residence or are without utilities.
Hawaiian Electric crews are clearing trees and repairs are estimated to be completed sometime today for Ahualoa.

“Hopefully no new issues arise,” the power company stated.
Approximately 40,000 Hawaiian Electric customers lost power during Monday’s storm. As of Wednesday afternoon, 800 customers were still without power, primarily in Honokaa, Ocean View and Ahualoa.
For those planning to use the shelter, county officials advise bringing all necessary personal items for your stay, including sleeping gear, change of clothing, and food. The shelter is pet friendly, but the animal must be in a pet carrier.
