Helicopter Operations Planned at Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park

West Hawaiʻi residents and visitors might notice helicopters above Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park on several days in September and October as the park conducts operations to remove invasive, non-native vegetation.

Temporary closures to ensure public safety during the helicopter operations also are scheduled for portions of the park:

• Sept. 16 and 30: Closures will include Hale Hoʻokipa Visitor Contact Station and parking lot and the main trail from Hale Hoʻokipa to the Honokōhau shoreline.
• Oct. 7 and 14: Closures will include Kaloko Road, Kaloko parking lot and picnic area, portions of the coastal trail between Huehue Trail and the northern boundary and the trail behind Kaloko fishpond.
• Oct. 13: Closures will include Hale Hoʻokipa Visitor Contact Station and parking lot and the main trail from Hale Hoʻokipa to the Honokōhau shoreline.

All closures are scheduled from 6-11 a.m.
