Hilo Man Charged With Sex Assault Following Reported Domestic Incident

A Hilo man is facing numerous charges after reportedly sexually assaulting a female earlier this week.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours on Sunday, July 31, at a Hilo residence on Ululani Street. According to Hawai‘i police the suspect, later identified as 58-year-old David Scott Paulino, reportedly struck the victim several times, strangulated her with his hands, sexually assaulted her, threatened her with a knife and took her phone away while she attempted to call police.

On Wednesday, Paulino was charged with two counts of abuse family household member, first-degree sex assault, and first-degree terroristic threatening and interference with reporting an emergency or crime. His bail was set at $123,000.

Paulino remains in police custody pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 4, in Hilo District Court.
