Queen’s North Hawai‘i Community Hospital Receives 5-Star CMS Rating

Queen’s North Hawai‘i Community Hospital in Waimea has received the highest rating possible from a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

QNHCH was one of only four hospitals in Hawai‘i to receive a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The agency recently updated its Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings for 2022.

“I am pleased that the quality care our staff is providing has been recognized by (the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and that the community can feel safe knowing that they are receiving top quality care when they or their loved ones come to QNHCH for their health care,” Cindy Kamikawa, president of Queen’s North Hawai‘i Community Hospital, said in a press release.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services assigns star ratings to hospitals throughout the United States based on 48 performance measures across five quality categories: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care.

This year, 192 hospitals received a one-star rating, 692 hospitals received a two-star rating, 890 hospitals received a three-star rating, 890 received a four-star rating and 429 received a five-star rating.
