Hui O Hawai‘i Racks Up Total of 20 Medals After 4 Days at Special Olympics 2022 USA Games

Hui O Hawai‘i, a team of 16 Special Olympics Hawai‘i athletes and five Unified Partners from throughout the islands, had racked up a total of 20 medals Thursday, June 9, after four days of competition at the Special Olympics 2022 USA Games.

Team Hawai‘i on Thursday added two more medals to its medal count, including another gold and another silver. Hui O Hawai‘i had earned a total of five gold, nine silver and six bronze medals by the fourth day of the national competition.

The Special Olympics USA Games celebrates the Special Olympics movement while promoting the ideals of acceptance and inclusion through sport and highlighting the abilities of athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Hui O Hawai‘i athletes hail from O‘ahu, Kaua‘i, Maui and the Big Island and were selected from among 3,400 participants statewide to compete throughout eight days on the national stage. They join more than 3,500 Special Olympics athletes from throughout the country competing in bocce, bowling, powerlifting and swimming, as well as participating in youth leadership programs.

The Special Olympics 2022 USA Games run through June 12.
