$274M Released in April For Capital Improvement Projects Statewide

Gov. David Ige announced today, May 6, that $247,385,979 was released in April for Capital Improvement Projects across the state.

A bulk of the projects for the month were on O‘ahu and Kaua‘i for the month, but among the Big Island’s share was $1.5 million to finance a comprehensive wastewater plan to implement a sewer system in Puakō and funds to expand the Hilo Medical Center.

It also included money for the Honokōhau Small Boat Harbor in Kailua-Kona, which will get $500,000 to be applied towards improvements to a $4.5 million wastewater treatment system. Completion of the project is slated for March 2023.

Ige also released $5,250,000 in CIP funds to finance improvements to the Lower Hāmākua Ditch Irrigation System. The project will cost more than $6 million and completion is set for July 2024.

“Building and renovating infrastructure remains one of the best ways to invest and ensure resiliency in our communities,” Ige said. “Whether it’s for new single-family residential lots for Hawaiian Home Lands, financing improvements to the Kalāheo-Lānai-Ōmaʻo water system, funds for an orthopedic clinic and other service expansions at Hilo Medical Center, or improvements to schools statewide, all of these projects help build Hawaiʻi’s future.”
