Traffic Change in Effect on Kalanikoa Street in Hilo During Merrie Monarch
Big Island police are informing the public of a change in traffic pattern for a street in Hilo during the upcoming Merrie Monarch Festival.
In conjunction with the 59th annual festival, police announced in a media advisory that a temporary one-way traffic pattern will be enforced on Kalanikoa Street. Traffic will be allowed to flow in the makai, or northerly, direction of the street, between Pi‘ilani and Kuawa street, during the festival.
The one-way traffic pattern will remain in effect from noon Wednesday, April 20, through 8 a.m. Sunday, April 24.
Motorists traveling in a westerly direction on Pi‘ilani Street will be allowed to turn right onto Kalanikoa. Left turns will also be allowed onto Kalanikoa from Pi‘ilani Street. Right and left turns also will be allowed to one-way traffic on Kalanikoa to access the Ho‘olulu Complex and businesses in the area.
Regular two-way traffic will remain in effect on Manono, Pi‘ilani and Kuawa streets.
