Second COVID Booster Shot Available at QNHCH

North Hawai‘i residents looking to receive their second COVID-19 booster shot can now get one at a Waimea hospital.

According to a press release, Queen’s North Hawai‘i Community Hospital is now offering a second booster shot for those older than 50.

Following the most recent guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people who got their first booster shot of any approved COVID vaccine at least four months ago can receive a second Pfizer or Moderna booster shot if they are older than 50. In addition, those 12 or older with compromised immune systems continue to be eligible for the second booster.

“Additional booster shots allow people in these select populations to get extra protection against severe illness,” said the press release. “A second booster can be especially beneficial for people 65 and older and those 50 and older with underlying medical conditions.”

Starting in April, the QNHCH Vaccination Clinic is open for walk-ins from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. every Wednesday. The clinic is located in the annex on the south side of the Waimea hospital’s campus near the emergency room.

COVID vaccinations are available for everyone 5 and older; no appointment is necessary. Those younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
