Kealakekua Man Faces Drug Charges Following Execution of Search Warrant

A Big Island man faces drug charges after police executed a search warrant at a residence in West Hawai´i.

According to a media release from the Hawai´i Police Department, 46-year-old Christopher Mundon of Kealakekua was arrested by detectives from the Area II Vice Section following the execution of a narcotics search warrant Wednesday, March 16, at a residence in Kealakekua.

A news release from the county prosecutor’s office said Mundon was charged with first-degree promoting a dangerous drug and first-degree attempted promotion of a dangerous drug. Both are Class A felonies that carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

According to the media release from HPD, during the search, police recovered 345.9 grams, just shy of 1 pound, of cocaine and various items of drug paraphernalia. According to the media release, the cocaine has a street value of about $50,000.

Officers also seized a 2017 Toyota Tundra and more than $1,400 in U.S. currency.

Mundon was taken to the Kona police cellblock as detectives continued the investigation. His bail was set at $100,000.

According to the news release from the prosecutor’s office, Mundon appeared Thursday in Kona District Court for his initial appearance. He was granted supervised release despite prosecutors’ objections and ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing April 14.

The investigation was handled by Officer Chandler Nacino and fellow members of the Area II Vice Section. The case is being prosecuted by the county Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
