A high surf warning that caused the closure of some West Hawai‘i beaches on Saturday has been downgraded.
According to a message from Hawai‘i County Civil Defense, the National Weather Service downgraded the high surf warning and issued a high surf advisory for the west-facing shorelines of the Big Island to include the areas from North Kohala to South Kona through today, Feb. 27.
Kahalu‘u Beach Park remains closed because of the impacts from the surf. Other beaches could close without notice.
A high surf advisory means strong breaking waves and strong currents make swimming dangerous.

Heed all advice from ocean safety officials and exercise caution, Civil Defense said.
