DOH Reports 12 New COVID Cases on Hawaiʻi Island

The state Department of Health reported 134 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, bringing the statewide total to 234,835. No new fatalities were reported.

A total of 12 new infections were identified Wednesday on the Big Island. On Wednesday, Hawai‘i County Civil Defense reported 889 active cases and 19 people hospitalized.

Community testing is scheduled from noon-7 p.m. for today at the Old Kona Airport Park pavilion in Kailua-Kona and the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.

Testing for Thursday is scheduled from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo, noon-2 p.m. at the Pāhala Community Center in Kaʻū and at 3-5 p.m. at the Nāʻālehu Community Center.

Community testing hours will change starting next week Monday, Feb. 28, according to Civil Defense. For details about these changes and a comprehensive calendar and list of all pharmacies and clinics providing vaccination and testing, visit the Civil Defense website.

A total of 8,213 individuals have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 1,304 have died.
