Art Entries Sought For Official Image of 51st Kona Coffee Cultural Festival

Hawai‘i’s oldest food festival is seeking signature art entries for its official 2022 image.

Hawai‘i Island artists are invited to submit original Kona coffee art to be considered for use as the official image of the 51st Kona Coffee Cultural Festival. Artists are encouraged to be inspired by Kona’s coffee culture and the festival’s mission to preserve, perpetuate and promote Kona’s unique nearly 200-year coffee heritage.

Artists of traditional media such as oil, acrylic, tempera, watercolor and illustrations, as well as computer graphics and photographers are invited to participate.

There is no entry fee to participate. Submissions are due by March 31.

According to a press release from the festival, the competition is open to Hawai‘i Island residents who are 18 or older; however, artists selected to have their work featured in 2021 and 2020 are not eligible.

One submission will be selected from all eligible entries. The selected artist will receive $500, name recognition on all print collateral, including poster, magazine and rack cards, a feature in the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival magazine and press showcasing the winner.

Signature festival art will be selected in April based on artistic execution and marketing adaptation and conformance to the festival’s guiding mission.

The concept image must be adaptable, in whole or in part, for the use in other media, including but without limitation, advertisements, T-shirts, brochures and rack cards. Typography should not be included within the art.

Submissions should be delivered to Malia Bolton Hind at the Kona Coffee & Tea Company at 74-5588 Palani Road in Kailua-Kona or submitted electronically via email to maliabolton@gmail.com with “Festival Submission” in the subject line.

The Kona Coffee Cultural Festival is the oldest and one of the most successful food festivals in Hawai‘i, according to the press release. The festival returns to 10 days this year, from Nov. 4–13, with a full schedule of events that promote Hawai’i’s unique culture and diversity and supports the festival’s mission.
