Weekly DUI Stats: 17 Motorists Arrested on Big Island Roads
During the week of Jan. 24-30, Hawai‘i police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 86 DUI arrests compared with 106 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.9% .
There have been 61 major accidents so far this year compared with 55 during the same period last year, an increase of 10.9%.
To date, there were four fatal crashes, resulting in six fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths), compared with two fatal crashes, resulting in two fatalities for the same time last year. This represents is an increase of 100% for fatal crashes, and 200% for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
