Motorcyclist Critically Injured in S. Kona Crash Dies

A Hōlualoa man critically injured in a South Kona crash Thursday, Jan. 27, has died.

Hawaiʻi police responded to the crash at approximately 4:27 p.m. near Miloliʻi on Route 11, .3 miles south of the mile marker 92. According to authorities, Perry Lynn Deleeuw, 62, was traveling north on a black 2016 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Motorcycle when he ran off of the roadway and lost control, striking a rock embankment and ejecting the rider.

Deleeuw was transported to the Kona Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 6:02 p.m.

Police say Deleeuw was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and police believe that speed is a possible factor in the crash. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

The section Route 11 was closed for several hours as the Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit investigated the crash. A coroner’s inquest investigation has also been initiated.
