Power Restored to Nearly 1K Customers After Kona Low Storm
Hawaiian Electric restored power to 900 customers as of 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8. Thousands of customers in the Puna, Kaʻū and Kona Districts lost electricity after a weekend storm hit Hawaiʻi Island, bringing with it torrential rain and high winds, resulting in downed trees and debris on power lines.
Crews continue to address outages in the Kona and Puna Districts. Kona communities include Kailua-Kona, Kaloko, Holualoa, Captain Cook, and Kealia. Puna areas include Eden Roc Estates, Leilani Estates, Nanawale, Hawaiian Beaches, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Ainaloa, Kurtistown, Fern Acres, and Volcano.
Customers in the Kaʻū community of Wood Valley are still reportedly without power, according to Hawaiian Electric.
9a #BigIslandOutage update: Most outages are isolated and scattered across the island so it is challenging to pinpoint an estimated restoration time for a specific area. In some areas, repairs are delayed by inaccessibility due to storm debris or fallen trees. pic.twitter.com/w3vlywblco

As of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, an estimated 3,200 customers were still without power statewide with most of the outages occurring on the Big Island where 2,600 customers were affected.
Hawaiian Electric said most of the power was restored Wednesday, however, officials say customers who are still without power should plan for the potential of at least another day without electricity.
