Weekly DUI Stats: 13 Arrested on Big Island Roads
Thirteen motorists were arrested during the week of Nov. 29 through Dec. 5, 2021, for driving under the influence of an intoxicant, according to Hawaiʻi Police Department.
Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 992 DUI arrests compared with 927 during the same period last year. This is an increase of 7%.
There have been 748 major accidents so far this year compared with 726 during the same period last year, an increase of 3%.
To date, there were 25 fatal crashes, resulting in 25 fatalities, compared with 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 66.7% for fatal crashes and 66.7% for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island-wide.
