Wet Weather Conditions Expected Island-Wide Through the Weekend

All weather advisories for Big Islands summits continue to be in effect, Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Agency reported this afternoon.

Starting this evening, the National Weather Service in Honolulu reports that a cold front is forecasted to stall over Hawaiʻi Island, bringing widespread heavy rainfall, isolated thunderstorms and damaging winds. As a result, NWS’ high wind and blizzard warnings for Big Island summits remains in effect.

Additionally, a flood watch, issued across the state Thursday, Dec. 3, remains in effect till Monday, Dec. 6. While a wet weather pattern is anticipated to continue into next week, Civil Defense reports low impacts for the Kona side.

The south and southeast sides of Hawaiʻi Island are anticipated to receive the most moisture.

Due to the high wind and blizzard warnings for the summits, the public is advised to be aware that summit roads could close without notice.

Due to the flood watch, conditions are favorable for flash flooding. All Residents in flood-prone areas are asked to remain alert for flooding conditions and to take time to prepare and address any flooding concerns.

Secure loose outdoor items before nightfall. If lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors.
