The Hawai‘i State Department of Health (DOH) is retesting Honokohau Harbor waters after high levels of bacteria were detected during routine beach monitoring.

Levels of 384 per 100 mL enterococci were detected during routine beach monitoring. DOH is uncertain about the accuracy of the first sample.

“This beach has historically met the acceptable beach threshold level, and there is no known source of fecal contamination,” DOH officials stated.

DOH has collected another sample and is retesting the site. More information on the results will be provided as they become available.
