The Hawai´i Fire Department doused a structure fire in Pāhoa on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters received a call just before 2 pm to a residence on Nenue Street. There, a passenger vehicle had become fully engulfed in flames, which spread to a 25-foot by 25-foot, wood-framed, free-standing carport that was partially burning when first responders arrived. The fire was contained to the vehicle and the carport with no involvement to the residential structure, HFD reported.

The owner of the property was on scene, who told firefighters that he came home to find his car on fire. The fire was extinguished and overhauled. A total of $20,000 in damage was reported. There were no injuries.

Hawai´i Police Department officers arrived on scene and began an investigation. The cause of the fire was not disclosed.
