Big Island Hospitalizations Dip Below 40

The State Department of Health on Tuesday reported 39 new cases and 1,122 active cases of COVID-19, with 39 persons hospitalized in Hawai´i County.

It if the first time the number of COVID patients in Big Island hospitals has been below 40 in several weeks.

There has generally been a downward trend in pandemic-related statistics over the last several days, across the Big Island and the state. Fewer than 300 cases were identified Tuesday, Sept. 21, another tally not seen for weeks.

The state’s two-week average is now 465 new cases daily, with a test positivity rate of 5.6%. A map documenting new cases by district across all islands can be accessed at the DOH website.

A community testing clinic is scheduled for Wednesday in Hilo at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium from 2 pm to 6 pm.
