Over 30 People Hospitalized for COVID-19 on Big Island, Officials Confirm

The Hawaiʻi Department Health reported 845 new COVID-19 cases as of Friday, bringing the statewide total to 54,443. Four new COVID-related deaths were reported.

A total of 162 new infections were identified on the Big Island Friday. Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Agency reported 1,554 active cases with 35 persons hospitalized.

The state’s two-week average is now 661 new cases daily, with a test positivity rate of 7.8%. A map documenting new cases by district across all islands can be accessed at the DOH website.

A total of 3,149 individuals have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 562 have died.

To date, a total of 1,815,801 doses of the vaccine have been administered statewide, with 61.6% of the population fully vaccinated at 69.7% who have received at least one shot.
