High Surf Advisory Extended For Big Island

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended a high surf advisory for south-facing shores of all Hawaiian Islands.

The advisory was initially in effect until 6 pm Wednesday night, Aug. 18. NWS extended it through 6 am Thursday morning, Aug. 19.

Surf of 7 to 10 feet is expected.

Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Breaking waves may impact harbors, making navigating the harbor channel dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
