No HCCC Inmates Currently Suffering from COVID, Officials Report

One staff member at Hawai‘i Community Correctional Center tested positive for COVID-19, according to state officials Wednesday, Aug. 11.

HCCC battled an outbreak of the virus within its facility for several months. As of Aug. 11, 234 inmates have recovered after contracting the disease. There are currently no positive cases among prisoners at this time.

Twenty-six HCCC staff have recovered from COVID.

The Public Safety Department continues to test prisoners and staff regularly throughout out its facilities statewide. A COVID-19 cluster was recently identified at Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center where 31 inmates have been diagnosed with the virus. This is the first time a large number of cases has been reported within KCCC.

The latest testing updates received for the correctional facilities are as follows:

Maui Community Correctional Center – 58 inmate test results: 21 positives, 37 negative
Halawa Correctional Facility – 16 inmate test results: 1 positive, 15 negative
Hawai‘i Community Correctional Center – 1 positive staff test result, 2 negative inmate test results
