The Hawai‘i Department of Health reported 162 new cases of coronavirus statewide Tuesday, bringing the overall total to 40,984. No new COVID-related deaths were reported.
A total of 27 new cases were identified on the Big Island Tuesday, with 389 active cases and nine individuals hospitalized, according to Hawai´i County Civil Defense. The increase in coronavirus cases has been expected with more travel and the arrival of the Delta variant in the Hawaiian Islands.
The state’s two-week average is now 190 new cases daily, with a test positivity rate of 4.7%. A map documenting new cases by district across all islands can be accessed at the DOH website.
A total of 2,657 individuals have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 529 have died.
To date, a total of 1,746,867 doses of vaccine have been administered statewide. DOH reports that 59.8% of residents are fully vaccinated, while 66.4% have received at least one dose.
