Muliwai Trail to Close for Maintenance
The state hopes to reopen the Waimanu campground after one of its regular maintenance trips to the area next week. The campground has been closed since March 17, 2020, and will remain so due to COVID-19 concerns.
The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) will also close the Muliwai trail to all users between July 12-16 for cleanup. The area shuts down four times a year to allow for regular cleanup.
This routine maintenance, conducted by the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), includes maintaining proper function of the Clivus composting toilets, litter pickup, removing fallen trees, and clearing landslides and use of herbicide to control invasive plants.
See the State’s camping website for the latest information on the reopening.
